DeFanti and Giloth will receive the award at SIGGRAPH 2000, the 27th International Conference on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques, in New Orleans LA, 23-28 July 2000. | |||||||||||

EVL is co-organizing iGrid 2000: Empowering Global
Research Community Networking: an International Grid Application
Research Demonstration at INET
2000. iGrid 2000 is composed of 24 application demonstrations
requiring high-speed networks, with emphasis on distributed computing,
tele-immersion, large datasets, remote instrumentation, collaboration,
cultural heritage, digital video, streaming media and high-definition television.
An additional 3 proposals represent videoteleconferencing enhancements.
iGrid applications will be networked between Australia, Canada, CERN, Germany,
Greece, Japan, Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, USA (and
maybe Korea and Mexico).

This exhibition presents the work of current and
past graduate students of EVL. (ART)n Laboratory and EVL have
collaborated on the development of the first real-time, stereoscopic hardcopy
output of virtual reality applications - the ImmersaGram. Opening reception

Randall C. Smith has received the 1999 "Boss" Kettering Award from General Motors, the corporation's top technical honor. Smith has worked on VisualEyesTM , a system of integrated hardware, internally developed virtual reality software, and user interfaces, which is used to create stereoscopic, full-size, visually realistic displays of vehicles and components. VisualEyes is used throughout GM for vehicle design review, rapid prototyping, die and engineering analysis, and manufacturing validation. | ||||||||||

Dan Sandin will be a visiting artist at the Santa
Fe Art Institute from April 4 - 12th. The Santa Fe Art Institute invites
artists to give master classes in their area of expertise to small groups
of students. Dan will bring an ImmersaDesk to show VR art work and will
give the following presentations.
