Fourth Grade Bee Activity

  1. We discussed ways to expand Concept Map

·        Need to get the map in an editable format.

·        Expand on the ways students may test their explanations.

·        Expand on the use of gestures for concept map and lesson plan… i.e. traffic cops, American sign language, baseball signals

  1. We discussed the general lesson plan.

·        Make more connections with National and State science standards: AAAS, NSES etc.

·        Discussed use of the NOVA Bee special as a good intro.

·        Need to start developing the “gesture language” part of the activity. Draw from examples: traffic cops, ASL, baseball signals.

·        Think about scaffolding to guide the students creation of a gesture language.

  1. Design Research

·        Review of web-sites and UIC library came up skimpy.

·        Dave will ask Josh for advice on good resources in this area, and continue researching.

  1. The Application

·        Reviewed current state of the application. Despite hardware difficulties!

·        Discussed timeframe, approx 3 weeks for finished application.

·        Talked about improvements… add extra plants, bee chills out at a flower before returning, some form of flight for the user would be helpful, put the tree with hive back in, get rid of “The Claw”…
