Minutes of meeting 02.07.2001
Present: Tom Moher, Alex Hill, Yongjoo Cho, Marlynne Nishimura, Korrin Malen
We discussed the plan for the first Distributions activity.
- Tom outlined a plan to do the first iteration of the distribution activity
with Betsy's class. Her class will do niether the VR activity nor the field quide activity
but will do the distribution classroom exercises first. We would like to change the subject
matter in order to keep the exercise separate from the plants which Betsy's class will do later.
Kevin's class will get the last iteration of the activities.
- Korrin will either do a concept map on her understanding of her curriculum coordinator
role in the project, or she will do a concept map on the field guide activity. Alex is doing
a concept map of the Harry Potter evaluation. Yongjoo is doing a concept map of the distributions
activity.
- Alex will do an activity outline for the field guide activity.
- Alex wants to interview the students who took the HP evaluation in Joanna's class. Then he will
do another iteration of the evaluation and give it to several students in her class before they do the
distributions activity.
- Talked about using bar graphs and pie charts to bridge the normalization and distribution
comparison part of the activity. Yongjoo will put together more details on this section.
This included magnitude vs. percentage comparison and suggestions from Marlynne related to who is
closest to a goal if each team has a different goal. Tom also mentioned using a survey of two classes
to move the subject to more than one variable. Also discussed strategies for teaching the
"assymptotic approach" section. Alex will focus on putting together this activity.
