Education University of Illinois at Chicago 1993 - present
Master of Science, Computer Science,
Electonic Visualization Laboratory, UIC.
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign 1988 - 1992
Bachelor of Science, Computer Engineering. Experiences Research Assistant 1995 - present
Electronic Visualization Laboratory, University of Illinois at Chicago
In the process of evaluating and characterizing potential tracking systems
for
use in the CAVE VR environment. Conducting experiments to measure tracker
lag
and it's impact on human performance. Currently writing code for the use
of
these tracking systems in the IRIX and PC environments in conjunction with
high speed fiber optic networks for optimal performance. Detailed and
programmed various electromagnetic tracking systems such as the Flock of
Birds, the MotionStar, the PC Bird, the SpacePad, and the Ultratrak.
Teaching Assistant 1994 - 1995
Computer Science Department, University of Illinois at Chicago
Worked with students taking "Introduction to Computer Graphics"
Explained
and evaluated implementations of basic computer graphics primitives,
including scan-line conversion, perspective transformations, Phong/Gouraud
shading, and ray-tracing.
Professional Activities
Softimage and Mental Ray
Hollin Inc., Chicago, 1995-1996.
Designed, modeled, animated, then rendered animations with Softimage for
use
in company web pages and promotional videos. Designed and coded Mental
Ray
shaders for lighting effects in these animations. Also implemented channel
driver software to allow editing and navigation in Softimage through the
CAVE VR system.
Exhibitor and Student Volunteer
SIGGRAPH' 96, New Orleans, 1996.
Wrote "Aquasphere" with Alan Cruz. "Aquasphere" is
a C++ OpenGL based VR
application designed for the CAVE and IMMERSADESK VR environments. The
user is allowed to navigate through an underwater terrain filled with schools
of fish, groups of anemones, and ruins of cities. Later integrated
several other student works as well as "Aquasphere" to create
the "Oort Cloud
Union", a collaborative environment where the user is allowed to move
freely between works of several different artists. The "Oort Cloud
Union"
has since been shown in Ars Electronica and Total Museum.
Student Volunteer
Supercomputing' 95, San Diego, 1995.
Worked on the setup of the I-WAY and provided technical support for the
GII Testbed. Maintained crowd control during the event.
Extracurricular Activities Student Awareness Committee Member
Undergraduate Student Government - 1995
Advised the USG on current technologies available to inform the student
body
on daily activites and events. Helped with network setup and evaluation
of
a LED based display for the main floor of the Chicago Circle Center.
Finalist Robot Wars
Engineering Open House at UIC - 1995
Designed and created a remote controlled robot. Used the creature to capture
and hold a hill while fending off other constructs. Tied for second place.
Personal Very fond of traveling and exploring. Enjoy a variety of sports such
as
fencing, tennis, golf, and volleyball. Active outdoors type; enjoy
backpacking, scuba diving, skiing, and white water rafting. Hobbies include
