This report shows the performance test results of the teravision when it streams 1600x1200, 1280x1024, and 1024x768 images. I used two kinds of video capture cards manufactured by Foresightimaging for this test. One has 32bit PCI interface and the other has 64bit PCI interface. The network environment was 1.0Gbps local area network using TCP and UDP protocols. The windows 2000 platform was used for the teravision server and the linux platform for the teravision client.

The following table shows the best performance number  for each test condition.

Protocol Image Size 32bit 64bit
Transfer(FPS) Bandwidth(Mbps) Transfer(FPS) Bandwidth(Mbps)
TCP 1024x768 32.8 619.6 26.5 500.0
1280x1024 19.5 614.4 16.2 510.0
1600x1200 11.8 542.2 10.9 500.6
UDP 1024x768 9.3 176.1 7.1 134.5
1280x1024 5.7 180.1 4.2 132.8
1600x1200 3.9 179.6 2.9 132.4

I had expected to get higher performance for a 64bit capture card than a 32bit capture card, but the test result was opposite. The 64bit capture card definitely shows better capturing performance than the 32bit capture card - capturing performance test. However, it seems that the 64bit capture card interferes network operations much more than the 32bit capture card. I noticed that the 1.0Gbps network adaptor in teravision server also uses 64bit PCI interface. It may be one reason for such interfere.
