PROPOSAL #1: Vampire Reality (VR) The Immersadesk(TM) simulates a mirror reflecting the room where the desk is located. The person being tracked is the "vampire" and the only thing "reflected" by the desk is the tracking glasses. Some additional props would be included in this installation, including a flat backdrop painted with a two-dimensional representation of the three-dimensional "reflection" displayed by the desk. There could also be a hanging lightbulb which is tracked so that when someone hits the actual bulb, it's motion and related shadows will be replicated in the desk display. The bulb will be unlit in reality; it's reflection in the desk will be lit. A box opened up would be empty but appear to have a dead hand or spider in it when seen through the Immersadesk(TM) mirror. A coffin could also do the same thing as the box. The design of this real room can be done in Alias and the wallpaper that is used to decorate the walls would also generated in Alias then printed out to a color printer to the actual size for the walls. This would help eliminate the need to do a lot of digitizing/scanning in of the room into the computer. PROPOSAL #2: Immersa-PINBALL (what about ImmersaBall?) A physical arcade-like front would be built onto the ImmersaDesk to provide input that simulates the pull stick, and flippers of a pinball machine. The PINBALL ball would be computer generated and move through the simulated PINBALL bumpers and into real flippers as in a real-world machine. Once the ball is missed by the flippers and falls through the hole another VR space experience is triggered. There can also be locations on the table that if the ball goes into them, which will activate another space or experience. The tracker can also be used for the tilt action input device. This idea would be a way to navigate to other spaces for a collaborative project. PROPOSAL #3: Give Me Face Depict the various ways human and animal faces can be represented in VR. One approach would be to simulate a frosted plastic sheet. As users approach, a shadowy face appears "behind" the sheet with a voice beckoning the users closer. Then the face "pushes" throught he sheet, making it appear as if it is bending and warping towards the users. Gary Lindahl Maggie Rawlings
