Cli-Mate is an application that demonstrates a new user-interface design strategy for multi-touch tables. It interfaces with a climate visualization and analysis tool called Ferret, allowing researchers to compare various datasets for side-by-side analysis. As a case study of Cli-Mate, researchers at Argonne National Laboratory ran the Parallel Ocean Program (POP) on their Intrepid system for the first time; to confirm their results and correlate them with previous runs, Cli-Mate was used to assess Intrepid’s POP and Levitus datasets simultaneously. Users can select and compare time steps, levels and parameters – review animations, and using transparent contour maps and overlays easily compare results. Future work includes porting other existing visualization tools to Cli-Mate, and updating user interfaces to leverage the full potential of multi-touch environments.
