This video documents EVL PhD candidate and researcher Robert Kooima running his latest high-resolution Earth demonstration on the University of California, San Diego, Calit2's 65-panel Varrier autostereographic virtual reality display system. This 100 million pixel immersive display device, developed by EVL and deployed at Calit2 is driven by a cluster of 16 render servers.
The planetary-scale terrain composition algorithm adaptively blends multiple giga-pixel height and image data sets in real time. The example in the video displays all US territory at 30 meter resolution composed with the rest of the world at 500 meter resolution. This represents 70GB of data rendered in real time, in stereo, with per-pixel illumination.
