The Engineering Research Facility is located on UIC’s East Campus,
at the corner of Halsted Street and Taylor Street. ERF is a card access
secured building. During regular business hours, enter ERF through the main
Taylor Street entrance lobby and proceed through two sets of double doors
to the corridor. Turn right and walk down the hall to the gold elevators.
Take an elevator to the second floor and call 312.996.3002 from your cell
to notify us of your arrival. You will be met in the second floor lobby.
Getting Here
From O'Hare International Airport: A cab from the airport takes 30 minutes during non-peak hours and up to 1.5 hours during peak hours. Approximate cab fare is $40. The CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) Blue Line train takes 45-80 minutes from the O’Hare terminal to the UIC/Halsted Station. The delays are unpredictable and effected by CTA construction and slow zones. The fare is $2. See CTA
tips below.
From Midway Airport: A cab from the airport takes 30 minutes during non-peak
hours and up to one hour during peak hours. There is no direct train from Midway
(Orange Line) and UIC (Blue Line), so the commute takes about one hour and requires
a transfer at the Lake Street Station. The Orange Line is elevated and the Blue
Line is underground in the Loop. Exit the Orange Line at Lake Street (James
R. Thompson Center) and proceed down the stairs and escalators to the underground
Blue Line station. See CTA tips below.
From Downtown/Loop: EVL is a 15-minute cab ride. See CTA tips below.
CTA Tips:
CTA System Map UIC is on the CTA Blue Line. The station is UIC/Halsted. The westbound Blue
line splits after the UIC/Halsted stop, so you can take either the 54/Cermak
or Forest Park train from O’Hare or the Loop. Look for signs to CTA
Train or Subway in the airport baggage claim areas. The one-way fare is
$2 and may be purchased at the ticket machines near the platforms. Exit
the train at the UIC/Halsted street station, take the east ramp (toward
the city), exit the station and proceed south on Halsted Street toward the
UIC campus. Turn right when you reach Taylor Street and enter the Engineering
Research Facility from Taylor Street.
By car: Take the Dan Ryan (90/94) expressway to the Roosevelt/Taylor exit.
Traveling south, turn right on Taylor. Traveling north, the first traffic light
is Roosevelt -- go straight, and move to the right lane (the left goes back
onto the expressway). At Taylor, turn left. You are on an overpass, going over
the expressway. Immediately after the overpass, there is a UIC parking facility
on your right. Turn into it and park. The parking facility is on the northeast
corner of Taylor and Halsted. Our building is on the northwest corner of Taylor
and Halsted. From the parking lot, walk on Taylor, cross Halsted (going west),
to our building at 842 W. Taylor.
