Rise/Run

This two channel work projected on the main staircase (3rd – 4th floors) uses two image sources to suggest the multiple ways in which we are openly and secretly surveilled in these fear-infused times.  Projected on the top surfaces of the stairs, the run, are card catalog entries from the Chicago Public Library of books considered suspicious, highlighting their status (checked out or on shelf).  On the rise or vertical surface of the stairs is a live surveillance camera mounted in the Randolph Street lobby of the Cultural Center.

 

The work will require a computer displaying book entries for the overhead projection, a wireless surveillance camera system for the front image source, and two projectors, all supplied by the artists.  There will be no sound.

 

The work can be viewed from the stairs themselves, the 4th floor balcony above, and the 3rd floor.
