Writing a Proposal

 

 

·         Give them what they want

-          follow the agency guidelines and read between the lines.

-          not sure what they want? ASK!

-          write for an audience who has never seen your work, keep it simple, clear, and straight forward.

 

·         Proposal Narrative

-          abstract

§         brief description of the project and work to be accomplished.

§         must grab the reader here, make them want to know more.

-          state of the art (cite historical works, works of similar nature, inspirational work, etc.)

-          documentation/support materials of your work

§         slides/photographs/video

§         images should start with wide perspective - then details.

§         articles and reviews.

§         formats: CD, DVD and web.

-          installing the exhibition – where / when / special needs (space, timeline, equipment, power, etc)

-          dismantling the exhibition and returning space to pre-exhibition condition.

-          long term maintenance if permanent.

 

·         Budget

-          expenses

§         costs of fabrication, transportation, insurance and storage.

§         professional services: studio assistants, legal fees and overhead.

-          in-kind donations / matching funds.

 

·         Bio / artist statement/resume

 

·         Public Relations

-          invitations

-          press release
