Introduction

There are two reasons why I chose this scene. First, the scene is very dynamic with fast action and it's interesting to see whether the animation engages the viewer and really appears intense like we are used to seeing in Hollywood movies. Another, more important reason, is the lack of motion capture in the scene. Yes, motion capture does produce very realistic results but, can you still get realistic movement using more traditional techniques? Since this scene mainly contains vehicles, keyframing played the main role so the animators had to "simulate" the real life physics acting upon objects as opposed to getting it "for free" from the motion capture data. Another challenge for them is trying to smoothly combine motion capture sequences and keyframed ones.

In this analysis I try to evaluate different aspects of animation such as character animation, the feeling of weight and momentum, camera movement, secondary actions, special effects and other subtleties.
