Magic Carpet is a cluster based out-of-core image viewer for scalable tiled displays. It uses processed multi-resolution tiled images to achieve maximum interactivity. The software loads appropriate detail at different zoom levels by paging image data to video memory in a view dependent manner. The goal of Magic Carpet is to provide interactive rendering of extremely large images for fast-paced and demanding settings such as museums. It supports interacive viewing of multiple and possibly time-dependent large raster datasets, text overlays, and vector data. Magic Carpet can run on OSX, Windows, and Linux platforms. It can work in standalone mode or render to the SAGE tiled display manager in offscreen mode. Future versions of Magic Carpet may allow on-demand generation of levels of detail without the requirement of image pre-processing when integrated with OptiStore.
