- 4:2:2 samples luminance every
pixel and chrominance every other pixel
- 4:1:1 samples luminance every
pixel and chrominance every fourth pixel horizontally
- 4:2:0 samples luminance every
pixel and chrominance every other pixel horizontally and vertically

NOTES: What digital option to use is covered in
another section although generally, when recording computer generated graphics,
or signals to be used with or as special effects (alpha keying, chroma
keying, digital effects) 4:1:1 recordings may display errors or "artifacts"
on chroma edges.
