Assignment 4.a. Web Site Design (Photoshop):
Due: Wednesday, September 24

Photoshop tutorial .pdf format

Objective: Create a design for your web site in Photoshop. The goals are: concept, aesthetics (interesting graphic, design), usability, effective communication, navigation, complete functionality. Identify the web site idea/concept. Your web site should include information and content related to your web site concept. You can create the web site for your music band, company (real or imagined), educational organization, brand, favorite artist, direction of your research, portfolio, etc. Think about target audience. Who will be the majority of people you would like to address? Are they older, younger, kids, specialist in certain field, general public? Your design should appropriately address the usability standards for your target audience. Example: use larger text if you design website for the elderly people/ use bright happy colors if you design website for kids.

Think about aesthetics, your style. The style should reflect your artistic style and at the same time be in a harmony with the website content. Design the home page. The home page should have a main menu with at least three different rollover buttons linked to at least other 3 pages which could be of the same design structure or have a completely different composition withing the same style frame. The web site design should include a menu with at least 3 rollover buttons, images, text, contact information, etc. Final web design image should look as finished as possible just like you would see it on the Internet.

Strive for clear, clean, not cluttered, explicit content, harmonious color pallette, sharp non-standard composition, interesting layout, well organized detials, shapes, concise text descriptions, appropriate related information and detials. No rainbow splashes or colors, no airplanes ( unless you design new web site for a Farnborough international airshow), undesigned and unstyled rectangular text buttons, think about new icons or illustrations, or other ways to deliver the basic button idea, etc.

Start by sketching your idea visually. This is the main, planning stage. Most of the work should be done here. Once you have found your subject, and have sketched out your idea, create a design using Photoshop.
