Art - anecdotal and personal
In 1988 Sara Roberts showed Early Programming an
Interactive installation at the Long Beach Museum of Art. Video clips
set up a mother/child dynamic with the user in the place of the child.
A menu offered a selection of choices, the "child" could be cooperative
or bratty, and the answer's in turn effected the mother (Margo). "There
are 18
different topics of conversation, and about 1500 phrases spoken in
different tones of voice depending on Margo's mood."

even relatively simple interactive pieces
branch.
Roberts worked with Lynn Herschman on Deep Contact and A Room of One's
Own.
In England Ann Carlisle made an interactive audio piece composed of
glass pyramids that lit up and "talked" as people walked around them.
Some said sentances, some made noises. Some automatically set off
others. The level of noise depended on the number of people and how
active they were.
