The May 18 public exhibition “Last Drop!” featured
MFA student Natt Mintrasak’s 3D-based artwork, and included video work, still
images and Immersagrams.
It
was held at the University of Illinois at Chicago’s Electronic Visualization
Laboratory, where Mintrasak completed a degree program in electronic
visualization. Mintrasak, an MFA student in UIC’s School of Art and Design,
produced all of the exhibit works in the last nine months of the program.
Two
days were needed to convert the laboratory into an art gallery space able to
accommodate a large crowd. Spaces suitable to display framed artwork,
ImmersaGrams and video installations were constructed, as well as a reception
center.
The
feature work--an animated short titled “Last Drop!”--was shown in an adjoining
screening room that was filled to capacity throughout the entire evening. The
exhibit began at 6 p.m. and ran strong until 9 pm. Several EVL graduate
students assisted with crowd control, check-in and escorting guests.
The feature 3D animation short combined 3D computer
graphics with live action footage. On exhibit in the main gallery were video
shorts, including animated fly-through sequences and a music video, two
Immersagrams and ten dye-sub prints of digital 3D models.
The
show was one of the most highly attended MFA shows in the recent history of the
laboratory, and a great success in terms of crowd response and feedback.
