Getting topographic data

The NOAA National Geophysical Data Center distributes the ETOPO-5 and other data on CD-ROM. See the Global Relief Data on CD-ROM announcement for more details.

The USGS also distributes map data, including the GTOPO30 30 arc second global elevation data, and 3 arc second DEMs of the United States.

The CIA World Databank II database is available by anonymous FTP from spectrum.xerox.com, in the "map/cia" directory. spectrum also has a collection of other DEM and DLG map data.
