Several issues arise when determining which type of camera and acquisition
format should be used for a green screen project.
Here are a few tips to get you started.
-
Shoot in the format you will finish on. If your project is for theatrical
release, shoot on film, if it is to be released on video, shoot on video.
-
Select film stocks with higher resolution (finer grain). 16mm is unuseable.
-
Use 3 chip cameras, and component video formats.
-
Don't use compressed digital formats for field acquisition. Too much compression
in the original footage will cause problems in the Ultimatte processing.
3:1 compression in your source is too much.
-
Never shoot with the aperture wide open.
-
Manually white balance your camera, never use the automatic white balance
setting.
