The idea behind Mars Explorers is to create an educational game for a public space,
such as a planetarium. The interface will be intuitive and easy to learn with the
need for very little instruction. Hopefully users will be able to sit down, explore,
and learn many new things about Mars....or just have a good time running around. :)
Concepts:
- High-score or Statistics boards
- Users can compete with previous users stats or scores
- Most area explored
- Most samples taken
- Most secrets found
- Perhaps a race track of some sort and record best times
- Intuitive interface
- Uses only A mouse or trackball like device
- Buttons will be context sensitive
- As few menus as possible. Interaction will mainly consist of users
controlling the rover by moving the mouse.
- Specific explorable regions
- Based on publicly available terrain data/images
- The prototype will not be concerned with exact scale.
But this could be a feature at some point
- Rover
- The rover will be based on the designs of actual rovers on mars
- The rover will move a bit faster and not turn like a tank
- Expandable
- The game could be expanded into a "Sol Explorers"
