Digitizing Video Using Orion/Sirius Video on Zbox.

The following steps will demonstrate in a walk through manner the process to digitize footage from a Betacam tape to an RGB image sequence.

1. Setup Edit Suite. ( This is the analog part of the process)

• Power up using the Furman power amps (both the editing and audio part).
• Set switcher to Sirius option.
• Insert source tape into the BCB75 (deck A).
• make sure that far right switch under tape slot is set in the up position -> "Remote".
• use control switcher to sirius vlan pin on the Clear Signal Junction Panel. Switch the Player A end to the SiriusVlan connection. ( on bay with CD and DAT )

2. Setup Zbox. (This is the digital part of the process)

• Login to zbox 0.0
• From a shell window run:
  /usr/dmedia/bin/SIRIUS/orion
• Create a directory in /usr/tmp/ for the files you will store.
• Set filename to a file in that directory (i.e. /usr/tmp/MyDir/afilename).
  Note: remember that Video is roughly 1 meg a frame at thirty frames a second, so 30 secs of video = ~1GB)
• Once the gui is open make sure that the configuration is correct.
  
  
  

  
  

  1. Options -> Rescan Vlan Devices
  2. View -> videoin

  (this will pop-up a window. The resolution that is being digitized is 640x480.

  3. Filename -> Filename...
     
  4. Options -> File Format -> RGB
     
  5. Trigger -> VLAN
  6. Capture Mode -> Frames
  7. Device -> VTR 1:BVW47
  8. Filename Pattern -> %s.%03(or 4).rgb
  9. Custom Pattern -> %s.%04.rgb
  10. Ring Buffer Size -> 100
• Under the Video Controls(VLAN311N) Option
• 1. Use shuttle or jog controls to set edit points
  2. • The in and out points should be the only ones that you need to adjust.
       
• Hit "Capture" and let the utility do its work. It will take a while, it does the capture in increments of your ring buffer size.

A message window at the bottom explains your actions. Select Options ->Verbose if you cannot see it.

To playback the frames you just digitized go to your directory in /usr/tmp and type: dmovie filename.00*
