Carpenter's Square

Loomis 4

Part II, Proof 4, page 101 from E.S.Loomis, The Pythagorean Proposition (1940)

This re-drawing of the Loomis figure 107, above,
rotates the entire configuration, and adds color
to clarify the translation of the square units
into the hypotenuse square.

The sixteen units of the base square (green and yellow)
plus the nine units of the riser square (tan and brown)
equal the area (twenty-five units) of the hypotenuse sqaure.
