Public / Private space

Explore the 3D model of Joep van Lieshout's sculpture The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly and think about the following:

  • What is the form of a space? Can it be a real space, a dwelling, a building? Can it be an imaginary world?
  • What is the function of a space? What should a space that people live in, learn in, have fun in be like?
  • What makes a space look interesting, comfortable, inviting, cozy? What makes a space feel restricted, closed off, abandoned, empty? What makes a space look grand, spacious, narrow, tight, dark, mysterious, an unusual design?
  • Does a space need to be beautiful, functional, both?
  • Can a sculpture or a painting reveal space?
  • How does a sculpture reflect the space surrounding it?
  • Is your personal space for public or private use?
  • Is your space for secret memories, or will you let others use it/look inside?
What space would be public? Where would the more private space be located?
