OBJECTIVES: Students demonstrate an understanding of basic art elements. This activity also encourages close looking at artworks and helps students understand something about the nature of art.
PROCEDURE: Now, that we have had a chance to learn about some of the basic elements in art, I thought that we could play a game to test our memory. I have with me some color bags that you can actually get into. I'd like one of you to get into the bag and we will choose an element that you have to show us. For example, I might say: show us a very tall building, or a very thin flat line, or maybe a large square. Then the person in the bag will act that element out for us. (Choose a number or students to act out different elements.) Now let's make it a little more tricky. Without telling us what the element is, who would like to get into one of the bags and show us a line, shape, or subject matter that they remember from the tour? Our job will be to guess which element they are presenting to us. Those of you who are guessing the element and who are really stumped can ask the person in the bag some questions about it or even ask them where we saw that element in our tour today.
