My Intended Installation Layout

Original Floor Plan

This is an approximation of the original floor plan of my installation. I have squished it a little in order to conserve memory, but you get the general idea. Missing from the final version of this are the sand paintings and the archway.

The "arch" shown here framing the "entrance" to the area was to be designed after an entrance to an Egyptian tomb or temple. The one i was considering as the model was the entrance to the Temple of Hathor. The arch was nixed mainly because of time restraints; it was considered a "disposable" piece from the very beginning.

The Divine Algorithm

Yes, i know, this piece was included in the show. However, the form it took in reality was very different from its original plan: Two large wooden boxes (about 38"w x 25"h x 40"d each) were to be populated by plastic animals, plants, and dolls of various races. The walls and floor of each box were to be painted with a grassy landscape and a blue sky. Each doll was to have a wire emerging from its head, the other end of which would be attached to the ceiling. In its fruition, this piece only had one monochrome monitor running (description follows, in case you forgot), although in this plan i had intended to use 2: one on top of each wooden box. These monitors were to have been displaying what appeared to be the results of a very complex equation. All text was to have been in my own hieroglyphic alphabet.

So why the big change in plan? Mainly i decided that the garage-sale appearance of this piece would not have fit in with the rest of my stuff, which was kind of clean and high-tech.

Sun God Sand Paintings

I chose three frames from the "FLUX" animation to be made into actual sand paintings. You know, like with real sand on them. This series was ultimately abandoned due to several technical problems. But had they made it into the show, they would have been suspended from the ceiling, facing the mountain range light boxes.
