The overall motivation behind each design is the desire to accommodate the scientist by reflecting the goals of the scientific data analysis process [6] as gleaned from the user studies. The outstanding implications of the user studies revealed problems of accommodating the two groups, and therefore the first attempt centered on a divided interface. While attention was given to address the needs of both user groups, the experimenters were the main concern in designing the interface since they were the naive users of the system.
