Jury Wipper Proof

Loomis 174

Part II, Proof 174, page 198 from E.S.Loomis, The Pythagorean Proposition (1940)

The opening position for this disection proof requires only five disection parts in the riser and base squares.

The opening move takes the three parts of the disected base square into the hypotenuse. Both parts of the riser square are then moved into the hypotenuse square. But some parts are still out-side. To complete the proof we need only to tanslate the remaining (dark blue) shapes into the hypotenuse square.

The closing position for this disection proof shows the five parts moved into the hypotenuse square with a perfect fit.
