  • Playing with Picasso is an interactive work created for the Immersive Wall and utilizes motion capture as its driving interactive element. Five musical paintings by Picasso, for example The Girl with the Mandolin (above), will be projected on a large screen (the Immersive Wall or I-WALL).

The user interacts by moving the arms of the sculpture replica of a particular painting, placed a distance away from the screen. Corresponding to the physical movement of the arm, the image on the screen will move and respond directly with the user's wishes. Each movement of the arm(s) by the user generates a musical sound (portions of a violin concerto by Alban Berg).

Theoretically, the piece is significant for its investigation of the nature of interactivity and computer graphics as they relate to traditional art forms such as painting, sculpture, and classical music. Motion capture acts as the vehicle which drives the interaction. The User plays a god-like being able to control the movement, and subsequent sounds produced, by the arm's movement.

The concerto acts to balance the imagery and motion with audio.
