As blocks are destroyed during the course of the game, items will appear and tumble toward the player. In order to acquire an item's effect the player must catch it with their paddle. Below are the effects and uses of the items in BreakoutVR
Missiles |
Missiles can be fired at blocks to destroy them instantly. The missile shoots out of the middle of the paddle and can be used to take out blocks that the balls aren't getting to. They can also be used to force bombs to explode or make the ball change direction, which adds a temporary burst of speed as well. But beware: they can also destroy power-ups! |
Bombs |
Bombs appear at the block they came out of, and do not tumble toward the user. If something hits the bomb it will explode and destroy surrounding blocks. Balls that hit bombs change direction and speed up momentarily. |
Multiball |
Multiball brings the total number of balls in play to 3. Multiball will clear the level faster, but it's also harder to keep up with the increased number of balls. The chance to build a higher score is greater in Multiball mode, but since there are more balls to keep track of, there is a greater possibility of losing points as well. |
Fireball |
When the Fireball power-up is gathered the balls go straight through the bricks rather than bouncing off of them. This can clear out the level fairly quickly, especially when paired with Multiball. This effect only lasts for a limited amount of time. |
Paddle Expansion |
The paddle is enlarged, making it much easier to hit the balls. The effect occurs for a limited amount of time. |
Paddle Contraction |
The paddle contraction power-down reduces the size of the paddle making it significantly harder to hit the balls. This effect is only there for a small amount of time, though. |
Extra Life |
Collecting the Life power-up gives the player another life to use in the game. This powerup is fairly rare so make sure to get pick it up. |
